Slow Connection

Check the following if you have a slow Internet connection

 
  • Run an Internet speed test here: https://projectstream.google.com/speedtest
    • Your connection speed will need to be 6 Mbps or higher to support video conferencing with your teacher and students in the virtual classroom.

What to do if home Internet connection is slow?

  • After each of the following steps, run another internet speed test to see if you now meet the 6 Mbps minimum.
  • Disconnect or turn off any wifi devices that are not needed during instructional time. Each online device will take a portion of your bandwidth speed.  As you add more devices, the speed will become slower.
  • Try restarting your Internet router and computer.
  • Move the computer closer to the wifi router.
  • If your Internet speed is good, contact your Internet provider and have them do a quality check on your connection.  They will say terms like "latency or delays" are good or bad.  Bad will mean their technician will need to check the connection to your home.
  • Fill out the google form at the bottom of our tech support page, we may be able to provide you with a wireless hotspot in order to better your video conference experience.

What to do if your supplied wireless hotspot connection is slow?

  • Make sure the hotspot is getting a good signal.  It should be 3 bars or more for a stable connection.
  • Disconnect or turn off any wifi devices that are not needed during instructional time.  Each online device will take a portion of your bandwidth speed.  As you add more devices, the speed will become slower.
  • Try restarting your hotspot and computer.
  • Move the computer closer to the hotspot.
