Assistant Principal

Edward Begany is an educator with over 30 years of experience. He received his B.A. Degree in Physical Education from Whittier College as well as a Master of Science from National University. Mr. Begany also received his single subject teaching credential from National University and his administrative credential from UC Irvine. Mr. Begany is currently the assistant principal in charge of Athletics, Supervision, and Maintenance at Edison High School.  Mr. Begany was a Math and Science teacher prior to becoming an assistant principal.  Prior to Edison High School Mr. Begany has served in many roles, from teaching to assistant principal.  He has served the communities at Huntington Beach H.S., El Toro H.S., Mission Viejo H.S., Fairmont Prep, Mater Dei and St. Paul High School.  He is also proud of his coaching accomplishments; which include CIF, State and National Championships.  Mr. Begany is also an adjunct professor at the University of Concordia, Irvine. 


Mr. Begany resides in Long Beach with his daughter Brooke.  Three of Mr. Begany’s passions, outside of educational leadership, include any athletic event, classic car shows and spending time with family and friends. He is excited to be part of the Charger Family! 

 

BennettKatrina Handel
Assistant Principal

Katrina Handel graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Adolescent Development from California State University, Fullerton and a Master’s Degree and Teaching Credential in Special Education from Azusa Pacific University. With her love of being a lifelong learner, she continued her education at University of California, Irvine to earn her Administrative Credential. 

 

This year begins Mrs. Handel’s 18th year in education, she began her career as a Special Education Teacher. Over her 14 years in the classroom, Mrs. Handel has taught all levels of students with unique needs. For the past 3 years, she had the privilege of serving as an Assistant Principal at Sowers Middle School. Now that she is Assistant Principal of Guidance at Edison High School, she is excited to see her past students and help guide them into adulthood.

 

Mrs. Handel is a native of Huntington Beach and attended Oka Elementary, Talbert Middle School and graduated from Huntington Beach High School. During those years in school, she had teachers who encouraged her to be her best and guided her into education. She enjoys making a difference in the lives of students, as those special teachers had done for her.

 

Altogether, Mrs. Handel and her husband have 4 children and 7 grandchildren together and enjoy big family dinners with lots of laughter, singing and noise, family camping trips and FOOTBALL! They are big LA Rams fans and Edison Charger fans! 

 

 

Fairman
Kevin Fairman
Assistant Principal

Kevin Fairman, Edison Alumni, Class of 1987 & CIF Football Champion 1985, has had the pleasure of working in education for over 25 years. Prior to Edison, Mr. Fairman worked at Marina High School where he served as an Assistant Principal of Activities, Athletics and Special Education and Ocean View High School where he was a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) working as a CTE Teacher and Activities Director. He is a proud alumnus of Eastern Michigan University, where he played Football and Track & Field while earning his Bachelor of Business Administration.  Mr. Fairman obtained his teaching credential from Concordia University and his Master of Arts in Education along with his Administrative Services Credential from National University. 

 

Mr. Fairman has been married for over 10 years to his wonderful wife Brooke, has a beautiful daughter named
Marley and two crazy dogs, Ziggy & Kingston.  He loves sports, music, traveling to tropical places, hanging out in his hometown of Huntington Beach and overall having fun with his friends and family.

 

Loomis
Joe Loomis

Mr. Loomis is a graduate of Cal State University San Marcos and the University of California Irvine.  

Mr. Loomis comes into this administrative role having taught fifteen years in the classroom–ten of which have been within the HBUHSD district at Westminster and Edison High School.  Throughout his time in the classroom, he has taught both mild/moderate and moderate/severe special education.  During his time in the SAC program, he taught students in the CORE and LINC programs.  He stepped out of the classroom and served in a leadership position at Westminster High School to assist special education in curriculum development and program improvement. We are thrilled to have him back at Edison leading the SAC Program.

On a personal note, both he and his wife, Kelly, are proud graduates of Edison High School and have been lucky enough to live in Huntington Beach most of their lives.  Their daughter attends is involved in competitive dance.  He wears the badge of “Dance Dad” proudly and can be seen on the weekends moving props during competition season.

Rich
Seena Rich
Assistant Principal
 

Mrs. Rich holds a Bachelor's Degree in English Education and Teaching Credential, as well as a Masters Degree in Educational Administration, from California State University, Long Beach.  Mrs. Rich has served on countless district and site committees and been awarded numerous honors, notably District Teacher of the Year.  She proudly taught English at Valley Vista High School for fifteen years. She has experience with a wide range of students from our community and dedicates the time and energy it takes to build robust and long-lasting relationships with staff and families.  She is optimistic, committed to hard work and staying focused on what is best for students.
