Enrolling at Edison

New Students (grades 9- 12)

For students moving into the Huntington Beach Union High School     District …there are six comprehensive high schools, and two alternative education high schools.  In order to verify that the street address in which you reside is within Edison High School ’s boundaries call the school receptionist at 962-1356 and wait for the operator or call the district office at 903-7000 extension 4110.

Students moving into the HBUHSD must enroll at their school home school of attendance.  The opportunity to change schools is available through the “Open Enrollment” process in January of each year.  Students who move into the HBUHSD after June 12th must attend their home school of attendance.

New students should bring the following items to the receptionist so that they can be directed to a guidance specialist for enrollment and scheduling:  (This process can take a day or two)

1)     Proof or residence verified by an electric bill or a gas bill ONLY

2)     Immunizations and a TB test within the last 60 days

3)     Unofficial transcripts & proof of withdrawl from previous school

Open Enrollment for (grades 8-11) January - March

Approximately 20% of students within the HBUHSD attend one of the six      comprehensive high schools that is not their “home school” of attendance.    A student is welcome to attend another school in the district by applying through the Open Enrollment process. In January, the Office of Educational Services mails a letter to all enrolled students in the district explaining the Open Enrollment process.  Interested students must submit a petition to change schools.  Once accepted, they must sign a contract in March that binds them to attend the school of their choice for the following school year.  Once enrolled in the school of choice, this becomes their “home school” and they must remain there the entire year.  Students in athletics at the Varsity level MUST understand that CIF rules must be followed and changing schools could jeopardize athletic eligibility.

Intradistrict Transfers (grades 9-12)

Students who attend Edison High School and move into another comprehensive high school’s attendance area within the HBUHSD must fill out an intradistrict transfer form to remain at their original school of attendance.  The family must bring in an electric bill or gas bill to show the new address so that changes can be made in school records.  See a the guidance secretary or guidance specialist to intradistrict transfer forms properly signed.

Inter-district Transfers (All grades)

Students who live outside of the HBUHSD attendance area need to complete the following steps to attend Edison High School (space permitting.)·Get a signed release from the home school district office of attendance, which releases and gives permission to apply to HBUHSD.

For New Inter-district transfers, send the signed release to the HBUHSD, Office of Educational Services at 5832 Bolsa Avenue in HB.

For Continuing Inter-district transfers, you must renew your inter-district transfers each year by getting a release from your school district of residence and sending it to the Assistant Principal of Guidance at Edison High School for approval.
